The short answer: in the Facebook app, tap Photo at the top of your Feed, pick your photos, tap Next, then tap Post (Meta). Before you post, check who will see it. The audience selector under your name lets you pick Friends, Public or Only me (Meta).
Post photos from the Facebook app (iPhone or Android)
- Open the Facebook app. At the top of your Feed, tap Photo.
- Tap the photo or photos you want to share, then tap Next.
- Type a few words about the photo if you like.
- Optional extras: tap Choose layout (for several photos), + Album, Add Media to add more, People to tag someone, Feeling/activity or Location. Tap Edit to crop or add a filter.
- Check the audience under your name, then tap Post.
These are the same steps on iPhone and Android (Meta, iPhone, Meta, Android). For the clearest photos, upload on Wi-Fi or with a strong cell signal (Meta).
The first time, your phone asks whether Facebook can use your photos. You can allow all photos or only the ones you pick (Meta). If the photo you want doesn’t show up, that setting is usually why.
Choose who can see your photos
Tap the audience button under your name (it might say Friends or Public) before you post:
- Friends: only your Facebook friends.
- Public: anyone, including people who aren’t your friends.
- Only me: a private copy for yourself.
Changing the audience for one post doesn’t change your default. You can also change it after posting by tapping the audience icon next to the date on the post (Meta). For family photos, Friends is usually the safer choice.
Post photos from a computer
- Go to facebook.com and sign in.
- At the top of your Feed, click Photo/video.
- Select the photos on your computer.
- Add a caption, tag friends or add more photos if you want.
- Select your audience, then click Post (Meta).
Add more photos to a post you already shared
- Go to your post and tap Options (the three dots) at the top right.
- Tap Edit post, then Add media, and pick the photos.
- Tap Save (Meta).
To take one photo off a post, edit the post, tap the photo, then tap Remove. This doesn’t work for posts shared from another app or from an album (Meta).
Put photos in an album
Albums keep a trip or a birthday together. While making a photo post in the app, tap + Album to add the photos to an album or start a new one (Meta). On a computer, go to your profile, click Photos, then Albums, open the album and click + Add to Album. An album can hold up to 1,000 photos, and its privacy setting controls who sees the photos in it (Meta).
If a photo won’t upload
- Update the Facebook app or your web browser, or restart the app.
- Try Wi-Fi instead of cell data, or the other way round.
- Use a JPEG or PNG photo under 15 MB. Try the original photo rather than an edited copy (Meta).
- If you use an ad blocker on a computer, turn it off for Facebook (Meta).

Questions people ask about posting photos on Facebook
Can I post more than one photo at a time?
Yes. Select several photos in the picker, then tap Next. With more than one photo you can tap Choose layout to change how they’re arranged (Meta).
Who will see my photos?
Whoever you pick in the audience selector, for example Friends, Public or Only me. If you tag someone, their friends may see the post too (Meta).
Why can’t Facebook find my photos?
Facebook can only show photos you’ve allowed it to access. You can allow all photos or only selected ones. On Android, choosing selected photos needs Android 14 or later (Meta). Check the Facebook permission in your phone’s Settings.
How do I delete a photo I posted?
On a computer, open the photo, click Options, choose Delete Photo, then click Delete. A deleted photo can’t be brought back (Meta).
Can I add photos to someone else’s post?
No. You can only edit posts you shared yourself (Meta).
